In Assamese there is a phrase — মাটিৰ মানুহ, a man of the soil. It describes a person who stays rooted where he began, and builds upward from there. That has been Gautam Lahkar's way for two and a half decades.
He began working at twenty-seven, and in the year 2000 founded his own firm in Hengrabari, Guwahati — first as an interior designer and contractor, then steadily widening into civil construction and real estate development. The registered office still stands where it started: House No. 4, Housing Road, Hengrabari, Guwahati.
Over the years his hands have shaped more than a hundred bank branches, training institutes, health centres, government buildings and homes across seven states of the Northeast — for the State Bank of India, LIC, Canara Bank and a score of institutions that ask for one thing above all: work they can trust. Today he is registered as a Class 1(A) contractor with departments across the Government of Assam.
Through M/s Dreams Group, he has delivered residential projects in Guwahati — Dreams Aastha, Dreams Abode and Dreams Nest — with new residential-cum-commercial projects underway at Gotanagar (Jalukbari) and Ganeshguri–Dispur. And through Dreams Creation, a chain of three pre-schools in Guwahati, he builds something else entirely — the youngest minds of his city.

At the turn of the millennium, Gautam Lahkar establishes M/s Gautam Lahkar in Hengrabari, Guwahati — a civil engineering and interior works contractorship, built on his training as an interior designer.

Four residential projects of thirteen flats each completed in Hengrabari, with new residential-cum-commercial projects at Gotanagar and Ganeshguri–Dispur. And three pre-schools — at Survey, Beltola and Silpukhri — under the Dreams Creation name.
Water for the villages of Barpeta and Nalbari
The Superintending Engineer (PHE), Nalbari Circle, awards the firm six major piped water supply schemes under the Barpeta division — ₹7 crore of critical rural infrastructure under the Jal Jeevan Mission, proof that the same hands trusted with premium banking interiors are trusted with public water.
Work that keeps coming back
Freshly re-empanelled by SBI's Premises & Estate Department, Local Head Office (Guwahati Circle) in May 2026 for turnkey refurbishments across all seven states of the Northeast — alongside Canara Bank branches, SBILD campuses and SBI General offices, and four piped water supply schemes worth ₹4.96 crore in the Barpeta division, with work orders running through the present day.
